This painting delves into the restless cycles and continual transitions of nature, drawing from the living, breathing landscape of the Chattahoochee River and its surrounding forest. Through a biomorphic, multi-perspective assemblage, I translate sensorial and affective impressions into visual form—moments of movement, decay, emergence, and transformation.
My work asks: What remains within the never-ending mutations of the natural world? What persists when everything is in flux? Inspired by Einstein’s assertion that “Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another,” this piece explores the fluid boundaries between matter and spirit, perception and memory, form and formlessness.
Each layer in the composition is a trace—of a breeze, a ripple, a scent, a silence—capturing not a fixed scene, but a living process. In this way, the painting becomes not just an image of nature, but an echo of its ceaseless transformation.’

This painting was inspired by a small work on paper I made about a year ago when we were in lock down and I started to go regularly to Stone Mountain. Even though it seems to be a portrait, it wasn’t intended to be when I fist drew the shapes of that rock covered in moss that I found when hiking there. I decided to paint this rock again, but this time it’s shape and different elements spoke to me in a way that made me make connections to womanhood. Concepts like resilience, adaptability, transformation, nurture, energy, strength, transcendence started to pop in my head. We are nature, we are minerals, we are moss, we are fungi, we are water, we are soil. We transform from the inside out and are able, capable, careful, and powerful enough to nurture and transform the world around us. I think about all the amazing women I have been impacted, inspired, awed by lately and this painting expresses that. Women that are entrepreneurs, that risk, that thrive, that connect, and work really really hard every day to plant a seed…
